If I Had to Start From Zero and Rebuild My Energy and Strength While Juggling Kids, Work, and Little to No Sleep — Here's What I'd Do
As a fitness coach and a mom of three, I've seen it happen over and over again. You're exhausted, you want to feel like yourself again, so you try to do all the things — and you end up more burned out than when you started. I've lived that season myself. More than once.
So over time I stopped trying to overhaul everything and started building in anchors instead. Small, simple things that hold me together even when the day completely falls apart. Here's what actually works:
One anchor habit for each part of the day. Not a full routine — just anchors. In the morning, protein before caffeine. Midday, a 10-minute walk or some sunlight. Evening, a quick stretch or reset. These are non-negotiables that can happen no matter how chaotic the day gets.
Training around sleep, not through exhaustion. Better sleep means I can lift heavier and push harder. Broken sleep means lighter weights, slower reps, more rest. Pushing through fatigue doesn't make you stronger — it just steals energy from the next few days. I learned that the hard way.
A "bad day menu." Simple go-to meals and snacks I don't have to think about when my brain is completely fried. Decision fatigue is real, especially as a mom. Having this ready removes one more thing I have to figure out on hard days.
A 10-minute strength fallback workout. Two dumbbells, one simple circuit. That's it. Keeping your muscle during hard seasons protects your energy long-term. You don't need an hour. You just need to show up in whatever form that takes that day.
One daily calm habit that's just for my nervous system. Not for productivity, not to check a box. A walk, a hot shower, a quiet meal, a call with a friend. Something that brings your system down. This one matters more than most people realize.
If you're in a hard season right now, you're not failing. You just need a plan that actually works for the season you're in — not the one you wish you were in.
